" urniture and fabric arranged in a gallery situation become works of art, sculpture,
something beautiful," says Steven Heili, interior design student who has created an exhibition entitled, "Sit, Sit,
Sit," which opens Monday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The show will continue through Dec. 17.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Edna Carlsten Gallery,
Fine Arts Building. The pieces Heili has chosen to show are of contemporary design. "Even though some of the
chairs were conceived as early as 1925, they are still considered contemporary classics," he comments. "I hope
through this show to acquaint the public with good design-excellent furniture and fabrics that are available in
today's market," he adds. Some of the designs he has chosen include matrix chairs, which stack when not in use;
concentrix chairs, three styles of office seating newly introduced this summer; and a "ball chair," which is part
of the dcor in the University Center's lounge. The furniture and fabrics for exhibition are on loan from Modern
Interiors, Emmons Stationery and Office Supply, the Krueger Furniture Company, the Thonet Furniture Company, Boris
Kroll Fabrics, Jack Lenor Larsen Fabrics and UW-SP. Heili says this is the first show of its kind at the
university, arranged through the cooperation of the art and interior design departments. "I'm hoping this will
lead to similar exhibitions in the future," he predicts.
