Stevens Point Normal Domestic Science Overview
he College of Professional Studies became the new home for the Home
Economics programs during this decade after Chancellor Dryfus reorganized the University. The College also
held programs in education and communicative disorders. In the process, home economics became a School. The
Home Economics program moved into the new College of Professional Studies Building in 1971.

This was another decade of growth with enrollment doubling for the second decade in a row. By 1979 there
were over 100 home economics graduates a year.

The curriculum also expanded as separate programs were created: Home Economics in Business with options in
Fashion Merchandising, Housing and Interiors, Communication, and Food & Equipment; Early Childhood Education
with options in home economics or education; traditional or coordinated Dietetics; and a master's degree in
Nutrition and Food Science. Along with the specialization, the vintage major in Home Economics General was
discontinued.

Hendel
