Stevens Point Normal Domestic Science Overview
n the 1960's enrollment in home economics programs began to double,
with almost 50 graduates at the end of the decade. The program moved to a new College of Applied Arts, along
with conservation and other "applied" majors.
Wisconsin State College became Wisconsin State University, as the Regents authorized graduate programs. Among
the first was the Master's in Home Economics Education.
The curriculum in home economics began to specialize. A separate major in Food and Nutrition was created with
four specialized options.

The department received federal grants totaling more than $485, 383, quite a sum for those days.
New full-time faculty who joined the department in this decade were
Fay Clifford, 1960, Mary Ann Baird,
1962, Bonnie McDonald and Orthula Doescher, 1964, Fern Horn, 1966, Shirley Randall 1968, and Edith Pankowski,
1969. Faculty member Carolyn Sands died unexpectedly in 1969.
