Kathy McKinney
Kathy McKinney has a bachelor�s degree in psychology, a master�s in family studies and a
Ph.D. in family and child ecology (emphasizing human development) from Michigan State University. She came to
UWSP in 1999 where she teaches courses in the family, child and adolescent development, and parenting. She has
served as a research consultant to a new Oneida County program for family intervention. Her research interests
in addition to program evaluation are in service-learning projects and human service delivery, especially among
people with a mental illness. Dr. McKinney also worked as a mental health crisis intervention specialist, a
direct care worker with adults who have developmental disabilities and a youth care worker.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Kathy enjoys activities filled with movement and exercise. The most popular of
these activities are basketball, softball, and bicycling. When she is not engaged in sports related activities,
you will find Kathy attempting her hand at fishing, primarily for wildlife sightseeing.
