Cheryl Fedje
Cheryl Fedje is full professor and Coordinator of the Family and Consumer Education
major. She has a rich career, having held faculty positions for almost 25 years at University of
Minnesota-Duluth, University of Oklahoma and UWSP and public schools in the mid-west. She served as a Peace
Corps Volunteer in St. Lucia, West Indies in the early 1970�s. She has been with UWSP since 1981.
Dr. Fedje has received almost 10 grants from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to help Wisconsin family
and consumer education teachers revise their curriculum to focus on critical thinking in life decisions. The
grants totaled over $160,000. Recently she received an $8,000 grant from the Department of Public Instruction
to continue her work in developing a "Certified Skills Co-op in Family and Community Services." The purpose of
the project is to provide the rationale and framework for establishing the third set of state co-op skill
standards in the family and consumer education program area. This occupational area includes entry-level to
professional careers in family and community settings/agencies.

With many publications and national presentations, Dr. Fedje has worked with peers on such topics as higher order
thinking, curriculum development reflecting contemporary perspectives to family and consumer education, and
performance based assessment.
Dr. Fedje has also been involved with the Human and Community Resources graduate program by teaching various
courses and serving as an advisor to students completing projects and theses.
Dr. Fedje retired May 2002.
